Pictures that lie

The five pictures that stood out to me the most, was the first one with Katie Couric, Fire on Ice, white hot mama, Oprah on TV guide, and the OJ Simpson's time magazine cover. The main one that stood out to me was the Oprah cover. Obviously that's not her body, her head is on the body of actress Ann-Margret taken from a 1979 publicity shot. They manipulated the picture to make it seem that that was Oprah's body in that dress sitting on piles and piles of money. The picture was used with out Ann or Oprah's position, but it was then recognized by Ann-Margret's fashion designer who designed the dress used on the cover.

Urban Legends

Have you ever been forwarded a message from a friend about an urban legend before? Well I have, and it’s just creepy and weird but it keeps me wondering…is it really true? An Urban Legend is an apocryphal, second hand story told as true and plausible enough to be believed, about something horrific, embarrassing, ironic, or exasperating series of events that supposedly happened to a real person. It originates usually by being passed on by word of mouth or more commonly today in email from. They often invoke the famous “it happened to a friend of a friend” which makes finding the original source of the story virtually impossible. While there are many different urban legends, the stories about how 90% of people in the U.S. marry their high school sweethearts, Girls can’t get pregnant there first time, a young boy died from eating pop rocks with soda pop, will all be addressed.

Most people say that men and women in the U.S. that’s married were high school sweet hearts. There has been gossip about how people meet their spouses in junior high or high school and they’re still in love, and how most high school sweethearts marry after high school. Well, that’s all a lie according to scopes.com; most people meet their spouses at work, in public, somewhere where they are introduced to each other. Not just in high school.

There are rumors that a girl can’t get pregnant the first time she has sex. It was said that if a girl has sex for the first time, they won’t get pregnant, and that it’s impossible because she’s just been broke in. And young people these days say that if you do it standing up, or with the girl on top, sperm won’t reach the egg. And jumping up and down immediately after intercourse will prevent conception. According to scopes.com and also scientifically proven, that yes, a girl can get pregnant her first time, and when ever someone tells you or a friend that it cant happen, they are false and obviously does not know their facts.

The death of a boy that ate six packs of pop rocks and then six packs of Pepsi was swarming around emails. Apparently he ate the two products together; they exploded in his mouth killing him horribly. People said that combining the two products cause too much carbon dioxide in the body which causes death. According to Scopes.com; this isn’t true at all, no one died and it doesn’t cause too much carbon dioxide, so next time someone tells you this, don’t believe it.

Violence in the Media

Media portrays violence in many ways. They explain it in the news, how kids have been shot in the "Ghetto" by a drive-by incidents and people being robbed there as well. This scares people when they watch this, and makes them not want to go to different cities where there are "Ghetto's". In movies they show baby-sitters getting their houses broke end and being murdered. When young teenagers see that while or before their babysitting they get petrified and start to get paranoid. Little kids that play violent video games start to inherit those traits portrayed in the games and start being violent towards others like hitting, kicking, punching, basically fighting, thinking its cool, fun, and the right thing to do. They think they can get rewarded for the things they do that's violent and that's not right.

tough guys vs killing us soflty

The movie tough guys was basically about,examples of men acting all tough, trying to fit in with society standards. Its what society wants men to be like, tough, always in control, above all women, strong, always playing sports, doesnt care about any other guy, you cant show any emotions, you always have to MAN UP! And thats soo not right. On the other hand, killing us softly was about women in society and how they are treated, always the underdog, men always control them, you always have to look up to a guy, you cant talk or say anything, you always have to ask, pertaining to asking a male, a guy. She talked about how in ads, all women are doing is giving off a sexual image, has there mouth covers, and always under guys. With the male always looking stronger over us, while we are looking week and small and somewhat shorter than thm. The males always look stronger and bigger. Thats what society wants women to look like, nothing but sexual tools and slaves for men. My opinion on the movies are that yes, the movie about the males were right. Guys these day do act tough, like, they need to me and need to act tough all the time. Doesnt care about there feelings, cant cry or nothing. Just there, all tough and stuff. Like, its annoying I mean, every girl would want a guy thats there and would protect her at all cost. But not a controling freak who abuses you..and thats like too strong. An the other video was saying that all women are only house wifes and cook and clean for men and give them sex. And i disagree on that part..because thats just wrong.

HipHop #1

The Statement I chose is that Hip hop is a creative art form and a form of expression. The reason I chose this because, the statement is right. When people use hip hop, and rap they express what they feel in the songs. The quote that closely relates to this message is the one by Dr. James Peterson, Hip hops scholar. And he said that"The culture or the energy that came from that was a very improvisational energy, a very sort of reclaiming energy that young folks, through dance, through rapping, and deejayin and so on and so forth, that is how the culture took hold. It was a willed response to systematic violence in the community. And when I say"violence" I mean like destroying homes...imagine someone puttin a highway through your neighborhood-then you can understand hip hop."

Comparison

When I watched the two movies, i was kinda shocked at what the Lady was saying about the ads and commercials of young women these days in our society. She talked about how in ads in magazines most women have there mouths shut, like we have no authority to speak unlesswe have permission from a man, or a guy. And even in the little kid magazines they even show authority of little boys over little girls, and the only way little girls will have some authority

Super Bowl

Since I've been in media analysis and we've been going over the concepts and how people manipulate ads, has brought me to the attention of the Superbowl ads. I noticed that most commercials had some type of music or action playing in the background to grab the viewers attention. Most commercials were about beer, and something that had to do with football, since it is football season and its the Superbowl. But other than that, commercials did what ever they could to sell their products and get themselves out there for all of us Superbowl viewers and fans. And all the commercial companies know that only some people watch the Superbowl for the commercials anyway. So of course they will; try their best.

When I look in magazines, like Seventeen magazine, which is one of my favorites. I see, ads like, to make your hair look shiny like the models, use Garnier Frutise shampoo and conditioner. Use

Cover girl make-up and your face will look smooth like Rhianna's and you won't have any acne. In Seventeen magazine they advertise Proactive a lot. In those ads, they make it seem that if you order and pay for proactive for 19.99 and get something extra for free, your face will look like Jessica Simpson's, and look as pretty as she does and be successful in life, if only you would buy their product,Proactive all that would happen.
